I’m a lecturer of English at the English Department of the State University of Surabaya, Indonesia. I’m currently taking a study leave to pursue a PhD in Cultural Studies, the University of Melbourne. My interest in literature and community took me to literacy studies in examining the literacy practices of Indonesian domestic workers who are working/once worked in Hong Kong. But then it had led me to a broader concept of literacy education and how it relates to empowerment, as well as literacy as social practice in general. All writings in this blog are, therefore, about people doing literacy for different purposes in various socio-cultural contexts.
